The Napoleon Project

Hel

21.10.2025
- 26.10.2025

Documentation of a shipwreck from the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The wreck known as “Napoleon” rests at a depth of 47–56 m in the Bay of Gdańsk. Although its state of preservation is very poor, we want to document it and help identify it. We hope that our photos, videos and a 3D model will shed new light on the history of this wreck.

Details

Our main goal is to perform as many dives as possible on the wreck of the “Napoleon” and to collect photo-video materials to prepare full documentation of the wreck.

If the conditions do not allow us to get to Napoleon, we can dive on other, closer wrecks of the Bay of Gdańsk – just for fun and training.

General plan:

  • October 21–22: warm-up — diving on the shallower wrecks of the Bay.
  • 23 October: Napoleon – first descents, preparation of preliminary documentation.
  • October 24–25: main documentary dives: macro photography, 3D scan, material collection.
  • October 26: Reserve day/alternate dives Backup time in case of bad weather.

Requirements:

  • GUE Tech1 certification or higher
    , or
  • GUE Technical Fundamentals certification + full trimix certification in another organization

Logistics:

We set sail from Hel on the boat Biała Orka .

Gases and logistics:

You can use the services of our compressor room in Gdańsk or fill cylinders at one of the local diving centers , e.g. Lena Diving Baltic.

We cover the costs of documentation departures jointly – it is a non-commercial project.
