The primary goal of our May 2025 was to enjoy good visibility and make some fundives on baltic wrecks. In addition, we managed to collect some new documentation of wrecks in the vicinity of Łeba – including a 3D model!
Due to the weather, we had to slightly change the original plan, but we still managed to do 6 dives:
SS Margarete was a German steamship built in 1890 at the Stettiner A.G. für Schiffs- und Maschinenbau shipyard in Szczecin (then Stettin) for the Union Gießerei Königsberg company. The ship had a gross tonnage of 417 GRT.
On October 5, 1915, during World War I, Margarete was intercepted by the British submarine HMS E8. The ship’s crew ordered Margarete to leave the ship. Then the ship was sunk.
The wreck rests today near Łeba, at a depth of about 15 meters.
Scanning Unit: Bartek Trzciński, Michał Ciemięga, Maija Poikela.
