Dive sites we are planning to visit:
Situated north of Hurghada, on the north coast of Shadwan Island (considered to be the largest island in the Red Sea), in the Shadwan channel, lies Shaab Abu Nuhas. This dive site is well known for the wrecks laying on the bottom of the Red Sea and waiting to be explored. The submerged Shaab Abu Nuhas has brought passing ships more than a fair share of bad luck. There are 5 cargo shipwrecks on the northern slopes of this dive site, so if you enjoy wreck diving then is Shaab Abu Nuhas definitely a dive site you should consider going to. This offshore reef offers at least 7 wrecks that have sunk but only 4 are suitable for recreational divers. And because these wrecks are on quite shallow depths, they are even accessible for beginners in wreck diving. But don’t forget that Shaab Abu Nuhas is also home to a great marine life and beautiful hard and soft corals
The famous aquatic siblings near Hurghada. The site is characterized by a huge fish population, dominated by tiny anthias, glassfish, sweepers and gorgonians. Here in the Red Sea two mountain tops have emerged from the sea. They have become famous as aquatic siblings, going by the name of Brothers Islands. They are als called ‘ El Akhawein’ in Egyptian parlance.
The SS Thistlegorm is one of the most famous wrecks in the world. Built in 1940, the SS Thistlegorm was a 126-meter-long freighter, carrying military equipment during the World War II. The wreck attracts many divers for the amount of the cargo that can be seen and explored. Boots and motorcycles are visible in Hold No. 1. Trucks, armored vehicles, motorcycles, Wellington boots, rifles, wings, engine exhaust rings and cylinders are visible in Hold No. 2. Off to the port side of the wreck level with the blast area can be found one of the steam locomotives which had been stored as deck cargo and the other locomotive is off the starboard side level with Hold No. 2.
Shaab El Erg is a horseshoe-shaped reef (about 7 KM in length) with at the center a small lagoon scattered with ergs. It is also one of the natural habitats in the Red Sea of a large group of Spinner dolphins. The open end of the reef is facing south. Shaab El Erg has a sandy bottom at a depth of 12 meters and it gently drops down to a coral garden. Shaab El Erg is huge reef plenty of marine life including sea slugs, blue-spotted rays, moray eels, and Napoleon wrasse. It is a shallow dive site till approximately 22 meters, has a channel and an ‘island’ with a little lagoon. Being a favorite meeting point for dolphins, Shaab El Erg gives you a great opportunity to dive with these magnificent mammals. Imagine this amazing sight. You are diving at Shaab El Erg and suddenly a group of dolphins, in perfect formation, is heading your way and the dolphins are passing by a few times, curious as they are. Wouldn’t this be a lifetime experience? Their dynamic swimming and their attitude are more graceful than you could ever feel and see. If you encounter dolphins, it is better to swim parallel to them and raise their curiosity. If you are swimming towards them, they will often go away. But most of the time they start to play and they want to impress the divers with their unusual movements and pirouettes. At the south-eastern end of Shaab El Erg is a circa 8 meters deep channel between the end of the main reef and two small round reefs that are very beautiful and overgrown with table corals and small coral blocks. From the plateau to the wall, you will find three pinnacles close to each other, from big to the smallest. After heading out of the channel you will find another 4 pinnacles lined up and leading you to the lagoon over a beautiful coral garden with many table corals. Shaab El Erg is also ideal for night dives. While night diving you have a great chance to spot nudibranch, feather stars and other micro-life that you would simply pass by on any other normal dive. Diving at Shaab El Erg is really worth a boat trip.
Rosalie Moller is a wreck dive site consisting of the remains of the sister of a world-renowned ship – the SS Thistlegorm. Rosalie is a former British cargo ship that measured 108 meters in length. In October 1941, during WWII, while transporting coal to Egypt, the vessel was bombed by the German Army and sank to a depth of 55 meters/180 feet. Due to its depth and underwater conditions, the wreck can only be explored by technical divers. Visibility is not the greatest and can drop to 10 meters/33 feet. After dozens of years underwater, Rosalie Moller is now a teeming artificial reef, home to fish like groupers and lionfish as well as anemones and corals. Gray reef sharks can be seen in the area too.
Bluff point is a steep wall dive that follows the coastline. There are plenty of small passages and inlets in the rock that hides away a lot of marine life. The reef is full of glassfish, butterflyfish, crocodile fish and a flat-headed scorpionfish. The wreck itself isn’t much to look at, but it serves as an attraction for marine life
